According to a recent survey, 37% of Americans believe that churches and other places of worship have too much influence on politics, while 28% think they have too little. The remaining third (34%) say that the current level of influence of religious groups in politics is almost correct. The survey also revealed differences between Republicans and Democrats. Most Republicans say that religion has approximately the right amount of influence (44%) or not enough (38%) in the political sphere, while a small majority of Democrats say that religion has too much influence on politics (54%).It is clear that religion plays an important role in Washington DC politics. But it is also clear that there is no consensus on how much influence religious groups should have.
